Research Specialist
Position Summary
The Epigenomics Core Facility at Weill Cornell specializes in implementing and optimizing high-throughput multi-omic technologies to uncover mechanisms underlying human disease. Our services include bulk epigenomics, single-cell gene expression sequencing, and single-cell spatial transcriptomics. The role involves performing high-throughput sequencing assays and imaging techniques provided by the core. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about learning new technologies, adaptable, and committed to supporting the team’s success. In addition to mastering core facility techniques, the Research Specialist will also assist existing team members with their workflows when necessary, ensuring smooth and efficient operations across all projects. In this position, you will collaborate with the Lab Manager and Core Director to refine and troubleshoot procedures, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. You will also be responsible for maintaining comprehensive documentation, including assay workflows, sample tracking, quality control, data delivery, and result reporting.
Position Activities
- Perform library preparation for high throughput sequencing following the core facility’s standard operating procedures in a timely manner
- Execute spatial genomics technologies, such as Bruker Spatial CosMx Digital Spatial Profiling, and 10X Genomics Visium. Prior experience with histology and immunofluorescence is highly desirable.
- Conduct molecular biological techniques, including PCR, DNA/RNA quality control.
- Troubleshoot assays; detect and resolve technical problems with the instruments and with samples.
- Ensures that safe laboratory practices are followed, including the use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Test and implement new protocols and optimize existing protocols under supervision.
- Organize and summarize data for group presentations and for publication.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Maintains core facility environment in orderly, operable condition.
- Operates core facility equipment.
- Experienced with automated instrumentation is preferred but not required.
- Ability to communicate concisely, accurately and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biological sciences with a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience or Master’s degree.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple competing priorities effectively.
- Must be reliable, collaborative, and possess a strong sense of responsibility.
